Gate
By Administrator | November 21, 2005

Webster’s Dictionary says a gate is “a means of entrance or exit”. In old cities walls were constructed for protection. The gates were guarded to allow only those with permission to pass. Some gates keep evil in (private clubs). Some gates protect and keep evil out. Many are left unguarded allowing whoever or whatever will to come and go. We are responsible for the environment our children live in. It is true we cannot completely control it, but we should be fighting for on our children’s behalf! Some parents use their influence to control this environment to keep evil in (abusive and manipulative) and some to keep evil out. However, far too many leave the gate open. They are absent from the cultural battles that are raging.
Matthew Henry’s commentary says the following about the first few verses in John 10
:
“How industrious are wicked people to do mischief! What plots will they lay, what pains will they take, what hazards will they run, in their wicked pursuits! This should shame us out of our slothfulness and cowardice in the service of God.”
I could not agree more! It is much easier to “leave the gate open” and not set loving limits, besides in the short term there are fewer conflicts. But the consequences are grave. Be the gatekeeper for your family.
May God’s grace and peace be with you,
