Taking Back Values

By Administrator | January 31, 2006

A few days ago I wrote and encouraged you to take control of your child’s value structure. I realize this will need to be hand to hand combat. No longer can parents sit by passively acting as cheerleader while media, church, school, friends, neighbors and extended family all work together to point their child toward righteousness.

OK, perhaps there never was such a time. But for sure, in this day and age parents may not sit idlely by! Last post I asked you to place viable alternatives in front of your children. If you rent movies I would like to offer a great alternative! CleanFlicks. Recently I purchased Apollo 13 from CleanFlicks for our school’s 6th grade class. The editing was well done. The movie was clean enough for all to watch! Not a single curse word. If you are looking for a viable alternative I recommend movies that are edited for content. You can check out CleanFlicks here:

***NOTE*** A federal court ruled that edited movies may not be sold or rented, despite the fact that CleanFlicks and others had kept a strict 1:1 ratio of purchased to modified movies. However, there still is an alternative! You can purchase a DVD player that will play your DVD and seamlessly skip inappropriate scenes thus playing the movie as though it was edited. You can check it our here:

This is only one alternative. You can seek out movies specifically made for Christians or families. Be vigilent though, remembering that not all content edited or “family” movies will have worldviews that line up with Christianity.  You may also want to work on an approved list of TV shows.  Make sure you preview any show before you allow your children to watch it.  You may want to periodically watch a show with your child.  Some shows have started out with acceptable values but have allowed those values to slip as seasons progressed.

You may have some ideas that have worked well for your family.  Would you consider sharing those ideas by entering them in the Leave A Reply box?

May God bless you in your continued battle to raise godly children in an ungodly world.

Unfortunately Clean Flicks was forced out of business by the courts. Presently there are not ways to rent edited movies.
