It Will Be Worth It All

By Administrator | May 5, 2006

A few weeks ago I wrote an entry entitled Of Lice And Sin. In this blog I explained that parents who work hard in teaching and training their children do the community of people exposed to their child a wonderful favor. Such parents are a blessing to more than just their child.

The reason for this multiplied blessing is due to the truth that our children’s godly actions do not happen in a vacuum. Unfortunately, their ungodly action, their sin does not either. There is no truth in the belief of a victimless sin. All sin carries a price which is borne by many.

Yesterday an elementary teacher relayed to me a heart braking conversation she had with one of her students. He was teary eyed because his high school aged brother had just been dismissed from school – again. The young boy poured out his hurt. He has been in 4 schools in 5 years due to his brother’s actions. “Every time I make friends I have to move schools”, he told the teacher. “I love my brother and I don’t want to know what he did this time” he cried. He worried his parents will send his brother away. He worried how this problem will be dealt with. What a shame.

I remembered when this boy started the school year. He would not smile. I would tenderly tease him about it and get a half hearted smile. I did not realize his hurt in having to start again at yet another school. I wondered if this young boy, not yet 10, would face more years of turmoil and hurt due to his brother’s actions.

Parents often do not (or don’t want to) realize the effects of their sin on their children. Divorce, marital unfaithfulness, pornography, gambling, excessive work hours, not fulfilling promises, the effects of alcohol, etc., all take their toll on our beautiful children. If you have yielded your rights to God, seek His counsel on how to live and deny yourself for the benefit of your children and work at living a holy life unto God – THANK YOU! I know, no one is perfect. The road is hard, at times we wonder if it is all worth it. As someone who works with children may I reassure you? It is worth it all. In the words of the second verse of the hymn When We See Christ:

Sometimes the sky looks dark with not a ray of light,
We’re tossed and driven on , no human help in sight;
But there is one in heav’n who knows our deepest care,
Let Jesus solve your problem – just go to Him in pray’r.

It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,
Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ;
One gliimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase,
So bravely run the race till we see Christ.

Your day in and day out efforts are worth it!

May God’s grace and peace be with you,

Mark and Ellen Strohm
