Inexpensive Late Summer Activities
By Administrator | August 5, 2006
Summer is coming to a close, the kids are getting restless, but there are several days left to have a great time for little or no money. Here is a list of inexpensive summer activities for the family to enjoy!:
- Picnic. When is the last time you packed a lunch, got in the car and had a picnic? Visit state parks, the beach, a field on the edge of town, just about anywhere! Take this time to relax and enjoy the outside and some food.
- Camp out. Late summer and fall camping is great. You don’t mind building fires and cooking some smores! Don’t feel like you have to go far. Many state parks have campsites that are reasonable fees or even free. Don’t have a tent? Ask around, you may be surprised. Even if you don’t go somewhere, how about camping in the back yard? Build a fire, tells stories and sleep out! Beats watching TV.
- Make up a game. With school just around the corner many families like to get out the craft materials again. Why not make up a game? The possibilities are endless. A board game, an outside competitive game – you name it!
- Visit the Library. Remember the library? I bet you can find loads of wonderful, fun books and family friendly movies. Often libraries run special events nearly always for free. Check it out.
- Visit a state of Federal Park. Early summer kids are too antsy to visit any park that comes close to being “educational”. Now is the time to take them, while they are ready to enjoy a rich learning experience.
- Go for an adventure walk. Digital photos have made it easy to print pictures. Why not prepare a “fun” walk with a few photos of some interesting items. A close up of a distinct stone wall, a fun mailbox, a unique house window, etc. Print out the pictures and hand them to your children. For each picture they identify in this fun neighborhood scavenger hunt, having a special reward will build interest.
Summer is coming to a close, the fall is quickly arriving. Before you know it school, sports, the holidays, etc. will make life busy. Make sure you take some time now to enjoy each other!
