The Theft of Time
By mstrohm | June 11, 2007
When I think of the types of valuables I need to protect from thieves, time is not one that comes to mind. Yet, this valuable asset, our time, is in great demand by our children. Yet, because physical survival does not obviously depend on time, we tend to neglect it. We provide a home, food and water and clothing. But our children’s ability to thrive depends very much on our investing our time.
I am not talking about lugging our children in the car between ball games and practices while talking on the cell phone. No, just mere close proximity is not giving them time. I am talking about clearing the schedule, blocking out distractions, sitting down, looking them in the eyes and investing your precious time and attention.
There are many thieves lurking just like parasites waiting to steal this precious commodity. As summer approaches, let me encourage you to be purposeful in keeping the thieves away from stealing your precious times with your child.
In the next entry we will take a look at some of the common time thieves.
May God’s grace and peace be with you,
Mark and Ellen Strohm
