Happy Independence Day

For those of my friends in the US – Happy Independence Day! I was looking for pictures of the American flag when I realized that the front of my house was as “patriotic” as any so I went out and took a picture of my own house!
Like many US citizens, I am proud of my country’s history. I am proud enough to defend her to my children in the face of criticism from a less patriotic media, press and education system (though I am thrilled we send our children to Christian Schools which I believe have been far more patriotic and appreciative of our Christian roots!)
While it is noble to defend my country, I must always remind myself that I am an alien here on earth. I am just passing through. I may be a US citizen for many decades, perhaps 80 or 90 years! Yet I will be a citizen of heaven for tens of thousands of years. How much more should I be ready to defend my Christian faith and identity which I will keep for all eternity!
