Be Careful Little Eyes What You See
By mstrohm | July 8, 2007

Some have asked why we monitor what our children watch and why we are careful with what we watch ourselves. Well, here are a few Scriptures we think can speak for themselves.
Leviticus 20:23
(New International Version)
23 You must not live according to the customs of the nations I am going to drive out before you. Because they did all these things, I abhorred them.
Psalm 106:35-40
(New International Version)
35 but they mingled with the nations
and adopted their customs. 36 They worshiped their idols,
which became a snare to them. 37 They sacrificed their sons
and their daughters to demons. 38 They shed innocent blood,
the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of
and the land was desecrated by their blood. 39 They defiled themselves by what they did;
by their deeds they prostituted themselves. 40 Therefore the LORD was angry with his people
and abhorred his inheritance.
Romans 12:9
(New International Version)
Love
9Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
Romans 16:19
(New International Version)
19Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.
1 Corinthians 3:19
(New International Version)
19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”
Matthew 7:13-14
(New International Version)
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
May your home be a home of peace, love and safety.
May God’s grace and peace be with you and your family,

I know those verses sound harsh and some may think it’s a stretch to apply them to watching garbage on TV, but ask yourself this – why do so many kids of Christians fall away from the faith? “Teaching them in the way they should go” involves more than taking them to church. It’s setting standards that are above the “customs” (read “lifestyles”) of those around us. And what are the consequences of seeing filth? Temptation, guilt and sin.
